After more than 10 years of writing insurance in Pennsylvania, Mercury has made the difficult decision to discontinue writing in the state. This will impact all lines of business- Private Passenger Automobile, Homeowners and Business Auto.
The decision to withdraw from Pennsylvania was not an easy one. We recognize that this exit will place an additional burden on agents, forcing each agency to replace coverage for affected customers. Ultimately, Mercury did not see a clear path to profitable growth in Pennsylvania which drove the decision to discontinue writing business in the state.
On Friday, April 29, we filed a plan with the Department of Insurance giving notice of our intent to withdraw from Pennsylvania. Once the Department approves our procedures and timeline, we will send a termination letter and notify you when we plan to begin the non-renewal process. In addition, we will be sending a list of customers and their renewal date and provide ample time for you to replace coverage for your customers with another carrier. Mercury will no longer accept new business effective Tuesday May 10, 2016.
We appreciate your partnership with Mercury during our tenure in Pennsylvania and wish your agency continued success in the future.
